Dr. Koulouris has always been highly dedicated to research, publishing in excess of 30 articles in peer review journals and textbook chapters and this is the foundation on which the clinic has been built.

As a medical imaging Specialist in Melbourne, Our commitment to embracing the latest digital technologies means that our CT scanner and X-ray machine use a lower radiation dose. Meanwhile, our MRI and ultrasound units offer a superb image .

The depth of expertise of our radiology team coupled with our use of the latest technologies ensures our ability to deliver a highly accurate diagnosis, prompt medical care and ultimately, the appropriate treatment for our patients.

Our Specialist Areas of Expertise in Medical Imaging

The Melbourne Radiology Clinics focuses on three specialist areas:

Diagnostic Imaging

Our Diagnostic Imaging services include Digital X-rays, with our sophisticated Digital Radiography unit replacing standard X-ray units, delivering a lower radiation dose whilst simultaneously providing superior imaging quality.

We also offer full body and bowel MRI scans, as well as dGEMRIC scans which can identify early cartilage breakdown. CT scans and Ultrasound scans at our clinic are the other imaging modalities on site that enable us to service our referring doctors and patients alike, providing valuable information as to the source of patient’s pain and symptoms.

Interventional Radiology

Our expert team is skilled in delivering several minimally invasive interventional radiology procedures to alleviate pain, aid recovery and potentially eliminate the need for more invasive surgical procedures. These include spinal pain, musculoskeletal and direct tendon injections as well as nerve blocks for temporary relief of pain caused by nerve trauma or inflammation, enabling patients to recover and undergo rehabilitation in a more compliant manner.

Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) is another innovative interventional radiology procedure offered at Melbourne Radiology Clinic. RFA can be used to treat back pain resulting from facet joint arthritis, recalcitrant heel pain due to plantar fasciitis, shoulder pain, recalcitrant knee and trochanteric region pain. It can also be an effective treatment for conditions such as Morton’s neuromas as well as post-operative neuromas.

Many patients are also referred to use to obtain a tissue sample for pathologic testing, which we can safely obtain via Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA) or alternatively a biopsy procedure.

Sports Imaging

Following an injury, athletes naturally want to minimise their time on the sidelines so an accurate and rapid diagnosis is essential. Following a clinical assessment, many athletes require some form of imaging to confirm the diagnosis and assess its severity – that’s where our medical imaging specialist an assist.

We can conduct X-rays, MRI scans, CT scans as well as ultrasound examinations in order to assess the injury. We can then also provide certain innovative treatment procedures to fasten healing and recovery, including platelet rich plasma (PRP) injection of a muscle tear, injecting cortisone into an inflamed joint or harvested tendon cells (tenocytes) into damaged tendons, such as the Achilles tendon.
