Melbourne Radiology Clinic specialises in the diagnosis and treatment of sporting and pain in the wrist joint.

Wrist Pain Injections

Melbourne Radiology Clinic provides pain-relieving injections delivered by musculoskeletal and MRI specialist radiologists to treat these and other wrist disorders.

Pain relief injections for wrist conditions are recommended for patients who have not responded adequately to more conservative therapeutic tools like medication and physical therapy to alleviate acute and chronic pain. They may also be beneficial for individuals awaiting surgery. We use modern imaging equipment to guide the needle in delivering the medication accurately and directly into the affected region during the procedure.

Before proceeding with any of the wrist pain injections, we will perform a range of tests to acquire an accurate diagnosis of the injury or disorder.

Why You May Need an Injection for Hip Pain, Wrist Pain or Elbow Pain

There are many reasons why patients may need pain injections to ease pain in hips, wrists and elbows. Often, pain hasn’t responded well to rest and rehabilitation and therefore requires a more direct approach. We are specialists in treating a broad range of musculoskeletal pain syndromes, including bursitis of the knee, hip and buttocks and routinely deliver pain injections for the subacromial (shoulder), iliopsoas (anterior hip) ischial (buttock) and infrapatellar (knee) bursae.

We deliver all our cortisone injections for elbow and wrist pain using ultrasound to guide us, thus ensuring precise delivery of the medication to the area where it is needed.

A Proven Treatment for Bursitis and Tenosynovium

Bursitis occurs due to wear and tear from excessive use or ageing. Most cases respond positively to rehabilitation and medication together with restriction or cessation of the activity that initially caused the symptoms. However, if symptoms persist, a cortisone injection directly into the bursa can help to reduce or eliminate the pain.

Many people suffer from painful wrists, often caused by repetitive movements which result in increased friction between the wrist tendons. The tendon sheath becomes inflamed by the repetitive movement, ultimately producing excess fluid. While this condition (tenosynovitis) can occur in any tendon of the body, in the wrist it is known as de Quervain’s tenosynovitis. This form of tenosynovitis can be successfully treated with an injection for wrist pain at our clinic.

Wrist Pain Injections at Melbourne Radiology Clinic

Melbourne Radiology Clinic offers an array of long-term, pain-relieving injection options, which include Autologous Blood injection (ABI), Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Injection, Sclerotherapy, and Autologous Tenocyte Implantation / Therapy (ATI/ATT). These injections are proven effective and highly recommended in treating pain and injuries in the wrist joint such as tendonitis, bursitis, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome, De Quervain’s disease, ganglion cysts, and many more.

While these regenerative injections are alternatives to surgical treatment, they may also be used alongside surgery to promote faster recovery.

Another non-surgical treatment for wrist pain is cortisone injection, which provides short-term pain relief to the affected region.
