Chiropractors, Physiotherapists and Osteopaths can request diagnostic scans for their patients however only certain scans will be eligible for a Medicare Rebate.
Diagnostic Scans.
For referrals from Chiropractors, Physiotherapists and Osteopaths only, patients will be bulk-billed for the following Digital X-ray services at Melbourne Radiology Clinic.
Digital X-Ray

(Medicare Rebate - Bulk-Billed)

  • Pelvis and / or hips
  • Full spine / cervical, thoracic, lumbar
  • Leg lengths

(Limited Medicare Rebate)

  • Other MSK region
Ultrasound

(Limited Medicare Rebate)*

  • 1 Region
    *As this service attracts a small Medicare rebate only, patients may be advised to obtain a referral from their GP .
MRI

(NO Medicare Rebate)

Chiropractors, Physiotherapists and Osteopaths can refer patients for a MRI scan, however MRI DOES NOT attract a Medicare rebate for these patients at Melbourne Radiology Clinic.

Other modalities

(NO Medicare Rebate)

Other modalities (such as diagnostic CT and imaging guided procedures performed under CT or ultrasound guidance) currently do not attract a Medicare rebate if referred by an allied health provider, however are Medicare eligible if referred by a medical practitioner.

Interventional Radiology
& Pain Management.
Melbourne Radiology Clinic offers a range of minimally invasive Interventional Radiology procedures performed using ultrasound or CT imaging guidance.

A Chiropractor, Physiotherapist and/or Osteopath can refer for an ultrasound guided injection, however this procedure would require the patient to pay the full private fee with no Medicare rebate available to be claimed.

For any injection it is recommended that patients obtain a GP referral in order to obtain a Medicare rebate for that procedure.

Ultrasound Guided Injections

Commonly used to treat arthritis, synovitis, capsulitis, bursitis, Morton’s neuroma, tendinosis, tenosynovitis and plantar fasciosis/fasciitis.

Image Guided Injections
Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA)

RFA is predominantly used to treat facetogenic back pain, sacro-iliac joint pain, recalcitrant/end stage knee pain, Morton’s neuroma and recalcitrant plantar fasciosis/fasciitis.

Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA)
Platelet Rich Plasma / Autologous Blood Injections

PRP / ABI injections can be used to treat tendonopathy, plantar fasciosis/faciitis, arthritis and ligament sprains.
